History Colorado Tours and Treks

Welcome to History Colorado's Tours and Treks page.

Every year we explore different aspects and corners of our wonderful state of Colorado and the western region.

We were named 'Best Time Travel' in Westword's Best of Denver, 2003.

Here's what a few of our fans have to say..

"I have seen all of Colorado and learned so much!" Vince

"Everytime I go on a tour with History Colorado, I have a great time." Mary

"Thanks. The tour with Tom Noel was fantastic. I can't wait to do another." Brian

Irish Cooking Class

March means one thing. It's time to think Irish.

Kevin and Mary McNicholas were generous enough to open their home and to share their Irish heritage with History Colorado participants.

The evening began with Mary teaching folks
how to make authentic Irish Soda Bread.

Prankster David Knowling goofs off above
unsuspecting Juliet Duran.

Colorado History Museum volunteers Rae Wisman, Gloria Rosener and Jean Larrick enjoy drinks before the serious cooking begins.

Gloria puts her creation in the oven.

Kevin spins Irish tales for his attentive audience.

Daughter Shannon teaches everyone the fine points of Irish Step Dancing.

Thank you, Sean, Kevin, Shannon and Mary McNicholas
for the wonderful evening!

Showtime!

Tom Noel led members on a grand tour of the Denver Center for Performing Arts Complex. Participants started at Baur's Restaurant for lunch and then met Judi Wolf at the Buell Theater where Judi delighted everyone with hosting them in the beautiful Marvin and Judi Wolf Lounge.

The Cliff House Tour in October, 2008

In October, CHS President Ed Nichols hosted a tour at The Cliff House Hotel in Manitou Springs, Colorado. Ed's family had run the elegant hotel for years and years. Over cocktails and appetizers in a private dining room, Ed regaled his audience with sometimes touching, sometimes funny and always interesting stories of the hotel.

Glorious September Tours

September saw tours to both Leadville to learn about the rich heritage of the Irish miners with CU Professor Jim Walsh

and an exploration of Boggsville, Bent's Fort and the Santa Fe Trail with our State Historian, Bill Convery.
A good time on the Santa Fe Trail!

It was "All Aboard!" for a weekend of fun and wine with Prof. Tom Noel. Participants met at Union Station on Friday, Aug. 29 to board the Amtrak train to Grand Junction. Friday night, Rep. Bernie Buerscher (soon to be our next Secretary of State) gave us a wonderful private walking tour of the town.

The next day we were off to explore Colorado National Monument in the morning and the wineries in the afternoon.

Tasting wine and really enjoying it!

Boy, that is one juicy, fresh peach.
